On Cheryl’s letter, and on her previous work.

Dear Readers,

Today’s letter is from Cheryl Wagner to her friend “Julie,” who is not actually named Julie but whose name Cheryl changed to protect her chances of being named godmother. Cheryl is also the author ofthis letter, about her next-door neighbor, a thirteen-year-old girl named Gabriella; and this interview, with two young men in Florida who enjoy a good smoke now and then. She is the third returning correspondent in our week of returning correspondents. Tomorrow: a letter from me to Stephen Osborne, about divesting oneself of one’s possessions, and the search for the perfect joke. What was my last open letter on? It was on coincidence.

Yours truly,

Paul Tough
